MUSIC RECOMMENDATION - CHRIS PURDY ESSENTIAL MIX

Chris Purdy is a local disc jockey known for his much anticipated yearly mixes, as well as his famed soundcloud five hour mixtape. Over the years, he has shown his diversity in music and in genres with the mixes put out on mixcloud, soundcloud, and possibly a di.fm exclusive. During his college years, the weekly Transmission podcast highlighted a diverse range of tracks within the progressive house and trance genre, keeping eager college students informed on the trends of the electronic scene. Transitioning from this into his yearly two disc mixtape, the mix matched the city chosen for the compilation to be recorded in. Those cities include Cape Town, Washington D.C., Diamondale, and of course Pittsburgh.

ARTIST HOMETOWN: PITTSBURGH

Although not directly tied to the Pete Tong Radio 1 BBC Essential Mix, the idea and same parameters apply. Mix well, mix fast, and mix memorable. Hitting 71 tracks in two hours, Chris was able to reach the same class of mixing as Mat Zo and Porter Robinson who ran through their BBC Essential mixes with 70 and 72 tracks each.

THE ESSENTIAL MIX

Coming from a diverse background of beloved artists, the mix is complimented with famed musicians. One of his known influences being Mat Zo, makes a worthy appearance with Soul Food, and a track collaboration with Kill the Noise. Getting into drum and bass before the half, the slew of tracks dipping into multiple genres throughout it's entirety. This intention keeps you in anticipation during the entire voyage.
